That Day

I looked at my mother with a smile, behind which lingered my sadness. My heart

clenched as I saw tears pooling in her eyes. She was trying to be strong, for the both

of us. I was going to leave my country and soon be an immigrant of another.

My excitement knew no bounds but I wasn't prepared for the pain that was wreaking havoc within my soul.

I embraced my mother for a long time. She held me tighter than ever. That day, with silence, we shared a lot. That day, I left my mother to start a life of my own. That day, I was free to fly with a broken heart.

That day, I became a woman.
